James Butler Bonham was the last courier to leave from and return to the besieged Alamo in feb/march 1836. His journey back to the mission brought news that no reinforcements would be coming. In doing he knew he would be returning to certain death.
Sgt Frederick Jefferson Lightfoot from Virginia was one of many US army deserters who went to Texas to enlist in the fledgling army. A veteran of many campaigns he still wears his former uniform although it has seen better days..
